September 1 ~ For the Right Purpose
Anyone can become angry—that is easy, but to be angry with the right person, to the right degree, at the right time, for the right purpose, and in the right way—that is not easy.”

How’s your anger management? Mine’s a work in progress. The key is to take charge of your emotions—to express them wisely and not let anger control you.

“Get mad,” said Colin Powell, “then get over it.”

Here are some things that help when anger rises: Take a deep breath. Talk with a close friend. Write in your journal. Draw something. Stomp your feet. Light candles. Ask for a hug—or give one.

“For every minute you are angry, you lose sixty seconds of happiness,” explained Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Grab a pillow. Scream into it. Dig weeds. Play your favorite music. Dance. Eat ice cream. Find the humor in it all. Then—let it go.

As Buddha taught, “Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else—you are the one who gets burned.”
