Passionate Colors Newsletter ~ #27 ~ Love Love: What Life Is All About

"The fate of love is that it always seems too little or too much." ~ Amelia Barr

Too little or too much, I checked out my quotation database and discovered that I've got thousands of quotations on the subject of love. I'd like to share a few with you, just in time for Valentine's Day.

"Love is the selfless promotion of the growth of the other." ~ Milton Mayeroff

SOMEONE TO SHARE YOUR LIFE WITH
"It's a real gift when you find someone to share your life with." ~ Jennifer Aniston

My celebration of Jennifer Aniston was written in 2002, the year of her 33rd birthday. At the time, the popular TV star seemed on top of the world with her hunky then-husband (Brad Pitt) and a contract that gaves her $1 million per Friends episode.

So much has changed since then. Her marriage and series ended and she is now pursuing new adventures, new ways of sharing life's mysteries.

TOO PLIABLE, TOO YIELDING
"Love is not enough. It must be the foundation, the cornerstone-but not the complete structure. It is much too pliable, too yielding." ~ Bette Davis

It is hard to imagine film legend Bette Davis (1908-1989) as pliable and yielding. As one of the silver screen's grandest and most durable stars, she was a role model for strength and tenacity: With those incredible eyes.

Not long before her death, she said, "You know what they'll write on my tombstone? 'She did it the hard way.'"

LOVE IS LIFE
"Love is life. All, everything that I understand, I understand only because I love. Everything is, everything exists, only because I love. Everything is united by it alone. Love is God, and to die means that I, a particle of love, shall return to the general and eternal source." ~ Leo Tolstoy

Tolstoy wrote this beautiful tribute to love in Chapter 4 of his epic masterpiece War And Peace. Tolstoy, who created vivid portraits of Russian life and history, once said: "I am what I have written."

Tolstoy's holy spirit of love and pacifism inspired Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.

PRECIOUS PLANT
“We’ve all got this gift of love, but love is like a precious plant. You can’t just accept it and leave it in the cupboard or just think it’s going to get on by itself. You’ve got to keep watering it. You’ve got to really look after it and nurture it.” ~ John Lennon
