~ #59 ~ Self-Confidence
|
"Besides pride, loyalty, discipline, heart, and mind, confidence is the key to all the locks." There's a seven-foot bronze sculpture of revered coach Joe Paterno outside Pennsylvania's Beaver Stadium. He's pointing up to the sky and seems to be saying, "Confidence is the key to ALL the locks." For 52 years, he has taught his Penn State players about winning at football... and life. Through bad times and career resurgence, you have to believe in yourself, in your ability to get the job done. If you believe in yourself, others will believe in you, too. "Self-confidence," said English literary genius Samuel Johnson, "is the first requisite to great undertakings." DO THE THING YOU FEAR... U.S. congressman William Jennings Bryan ran unsuccessfully for U.S. President three times. Failure did not stop the gifted orator from continuing to strive for...and achieve... success. Risk may be scary because we do not have control of the unknown. Change and challenges may shake routines and test our confidence. But to quote Common Sense expert Thomas Paine, "The harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph."
Have a great weekend!
