Passionate Colors Newsletter ~ #58 ~ Writing

"When I was 17 years old, a high school English teacher told me that I would never make it as a writer. My prose was weak, my grammar poor, my ideas stale. What did she know? Absolutely nothing." ~ Katie Struckel Brogan, Editor, Writer's Market 2003

BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO...
"Words are like leaves, and where they most abound, much fruist of sense beneath is rarely found." ~ Alexander Pope

According to the Writer's Market 2003, success in writing can happen with a combination of good writing, knowledge of writing markets, professionalism, and persistence.

Experts will tell you to make it a ritual to write every day. Get the words down, then rewrite. Rewrite again. Keep rewriting; you can ALWAYS make it better. Computers are a blessing for revisions.

Read your writing out loud and share your stuff with everyone who will read it. Think of your reader and make them WANT to read what you write.

DIVE IN...
"The material's out there, a calm lake waiting for us to dive in." ~ Beverly Lowry

J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, and Nora Roberts, had to start somewhere. You can, too. Ernest Hemingway said, "Write the truest sentence you know." Let passion motivate you and stay true to your voice.

After all, writing what's in your heart IS a celebration of life.

Have a great weekend!
