About a month ago, I got an unexpected phone call from a marketing guy in Richmond, Virginia who asked me how many people were signed up for this newsletter. Proudly, I said, "806."

He replied, "Is that all?"

Before rushing to end the phone call, he advised me to remove "passion" from the subject line for sexual filter purposes and make the "free newsletter" offer more prominent on my website.

There are lots of fences to scale. Recent studies show that 39% of permission-based emails are deleted before they are even opened. Because of SPAM guards and practical jokers with bogus addresses, emails kick back to me.

I believe Hotmail has put me on a blacklist. ALL their email addresses auto-return. I've emailed them with my concerns and they've auto-returned a form letter response.

How's that for ironic?

My mother used to rhetorically ask, "Do you think I'm doing this for my health?" Well, Mom, in this particular instance, I'm doing this for MY health. It makes me feel good to send out this newsletter.

I live for challenges. And the mere fact that you've gotten to the end of this email is VICTORY for me. And the beauty of the Internet is that we can remain connected no matter who or where we are.
