Passionate Colors Newsletter ~ #68 ~ Gratitude

"A hundred times a day I remind myself that my inner and outer life depends on the labors of other men, living and dead, and that I must exert myself in order to give in the full measure I have received and am still receiving." ~ Albert Einstein

Daily Celebrations

I wrote an email this week, and instead of writing "the weather in West Virginia," I wrote "the sandstorms in West Virginia." Obviously, my brain was in Baghdad as the images and thoughts of war seem to permeate my daily routines.

As the war and danger escalates, my feelings of gratitude grow for our troops and their families.

GRATITUDE IN MY HEART...
"For me, every hour is grace. And I feel gratitude in my heart each time I can meet someone and look at his or her smile." ~
Elie Wiesel

Bridging Heaven and Earth Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel (1928-) is a humanitarian of peace and inspiration for gratitude. Even at those times of the greatest challenges, with gratitude, any difficulty can be transformed into a blessing, into a meaningful lesson of growth.

Here are three ways to express our thanks to the men and women who are in Iraq:

Operation Dear Abby. Send e-mails to deployed troops of any service from your home state.

Defend America. Sign an online thank-you card for troops. Ten million have already signed.

Operation USO Care Package. Contribute to the purchase of a care package for troops including such items as sunscreen, disposable cameras, and prepaid calling cards.

"There are two kinds of gratitude," said poet E.A. Robinson. "The sudden kind we feel for what we take; and the larger kind we feel for what we give."

THE GREATEST OF VIRTUES...
"Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all the others." ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero

The simplest "Thank You" means a lot. Reach out with love.
