Brad on DVD
Million-dollar cutie William Bradley Pitt (1963-) was called "the coolest person on earth" by director Gore Verbinski and "a very low-key, groovy guy" by actress Julia Roberts. "When I look into the mirror, I see pores and yellowing teeth," said Pitt who commands as much as $20-million a picture. Pitt was born on this day in Shawnee, Oklahoma and raised in Springfield, Missouri. "My father came from a very poor background," Pitt said. "He wanted to give us more opportunity than he had, a better shot at a better life. He did that for us."
The story goes that he dressed as a giant el Pollo Loco chicken before landing a role on television's Head of the Class in 1986. "I don't have it all together, all right?" he said. "I've got my foibles." Achingly good-looking, his washboard stomach made a definite impression in Thelma and Louise (1991). A year later the golden boy won critical acclaim with his role as wild Paul MacLean in Robert Redford's A River Runs Through It. He followed that up with a string of unforgettable hits: Interview with the Vampire (w/Tom Cruise, 1994), Legends of the Fall (1994), and 12 Monkeys (w/ Bruce Willis 1995). In 1995 and 2000, the gorgeous Brad was named "the sexiest man alive" by People magazine. "A friend of mine said they misspelled it. It was supposed to be sexiest moron," Pitt joked. About his current choices, the super-hunk said, "I’m looking for some kind of new vernacular in films, some kind of new expression." In November 2004, Pitt was appointed as a special ambassador in Nelson Mandela's fight against HIV/AIDS. Lending his name (along with Will Smith, Robert DeNiro, and others) for this global awareness campaign, Pitt said, "We all must unite to help those already infected and affected wherever and whoever they are.”
