Road to Discovery
HTML Utopia
Creating Daily Celebrations each day has been on on-going road of discovery. Lots of challenges, but much satisfaction when the solutions come after hard work or with a flash of intuition. Learning HTML, HyperText Markup Language, has been quite an evolution. Based on SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language) an international standard for representing text in electronic form, HTML allows the publishing of hypertext on the World Wide Web. As German philosopher Johann von Goethe once observed, "Everything is simpler than you think and at the same time more complex than you imagine." When I first started this site in 1999, for speed, functionality, and ease, I've used Netscape's Composer and FrontPage to edit the WYSIWYG view; the computer guru in my life shuddered so much at this. Whenever I experienced a problem, he would say, "Could it be Front Page?"
Nowadays I am an HTML advocate, coding in Notepad, loving the power of cascading stylesheets and javascripting. As I "ALT-TAB" between Notepad and my browser, I can "<html></html>" with the best of 'em. I've come a long way, but I can't help feeling that I have so much further to go! Like the complex World Wide Web, HTML is in flux, evolving constantly. Everyone wants a top-quality site, a site that's accessible and attractive, with 20,000 hits a day. Because there is so much information out there, EVERYONE is learning and NO ONE is an expert. I like that. Keeps us all creative and on our toes. Wonderful artist Pablo Picasso put it nicely, "My object is to show what I have found, not what I am looking for." Here are some links to help you with your HTML adventures. Good luck, and happy coding.
"The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness, call it intuition or what you will, and the solution comes to you and you don't know how or why." ~ Albert Einstein
